The Municipality of Pateros has officially agreed to host the inaugural season of the SBG Cup Inter-City Basketball Tournament (NCR), marking an important milestone as the tournament brings together teams representing cities and municipalities across Metro Manila.
As host municipality, Pateros will serve as the primary home of the SBG Cup, with most of the tournament’s games scheduled to be played within the municipality throughout the season.
Pateros Mayor Gerald S. German expressed his support for the tournament during an interview with the NSCOA Media Team, emphasizing that the SBG Cup should be more than a competition—it should also bring athletes and communities together.
“At naniniwala ako na ang isa sa pangunahing objective ng tournament na ito ay para magkaroon din ng mga kaibigan pa itong ating mga manlalaro at tayong mga sumusuporta sa kanila. Sana ay suportahan natin ‘yong tournament. Ang tagumpay nito ay hindi lang naman sa kanila kung hindi sa ating lahat. Sa bawat koponan, sa bawat sumusuporta, magkaisa tayo para maging successful ang buong paliga.”
The Mayor’s message reflects one of the central objectives of the SBG Cup: to use basketball as a platform not only for competition, but also for building friendships, strengthening communities, and creating connections among players, coaches, supporters, organizations, and local governments.
The partnership between the Municipality of Pateros and the National Sports Coaches, Officials and Athletes Cooperative (NSCOA) gives the SBG Cup a home for its historic first season while establishing a foundation for the tournament’s long-term development.
With Pateros taking the lead as host, the inaugural SBG Cup will provide participating teams the opportunity to carry the banner of their respective communities while sharing one court, one competition, and one collective goal of making the league a success.
