NSCOA and TESDA Develop Competency Standards for Basketball Coaching
The National Sports Coaches, Officials & Athletes Service Cooperative (NSCOA), in partnership with the TESDA, continues to strengthen Philippine basketball through professional development initiatives. They have successfully conducted the TESDA Competency Standards Development for Basketball Coaching, a vital program aimed at elevating the quality of coaching at the grassroots level.
This important initiative was put together by NSCOA Chairman Allan Maronilla and Vice Chairman Sherwin Yanzy Enriquez, who once again gathered top industry experts to ensure the standards are practical, relevant, and aligned with the needs of local coaches.

Expert Contributions and Collaborative Success
NSCOA extends its deepest gratitude to the following basketball legends and respected coaches who generously shared their expertise during the program:
- Coach Ed Cordero
- Coach Frankie Lim
- Coach Ryan Reyes
- Coach Jerry Codinera
- Coach Eric Gonzales
Special recognition goes to all the grassroots coaches who actively participated in the workshops, bringing real-world experiences and insights that enriched the development of the competency standards.
Most especially, NSCOA would like to thank the dedicated TESDA facilitators team for their invaluable guidance, professionalism, and commitment throughout the entire process.
Building Better Coaches for the Future
The program focused on establishing clear and comprehensive competency standards for basketball coaching. These standards define the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to effectively develop athletes — from foundational techniques and player development strategies to leadership, game management, and sportsmanship.
By professionalizing coaching at the grassroots level, this initiative aims to:
- Raise the overall quality of basketball coaching across local communities
- Ensure consistent and athlete-centered development programs
- Provide pathways for skills certification and career advancement for coaches
- Strengthen the entire basketball ecosystem in the Philippines
Advancing Philippine Sports Development
This partnership between NSCOA and TESDA reflects a shared commitment to uplifting coaches, who play a crucial role in discovering and nurturing the next generation of Filipino athletes.
“Great coaches build not just better players, but better individuals and stronger communities.” — NSCOA Team
NSCOA remains dedicated to supporting the professional growth of coaches, officials, and athletes. The newly developed competency standards will soon be rolled out through training programs and certification courses, creating more opportunities for grassroots coaches nationwide.
